That's how it worked in Tn. but Co may be different.
Yeah that sounds right. I think in CO you also have to post a bond for the value and have it inspected and the numbers run by the State PD or something like that. I have a motorcycle frame I was trying to title and it was going to be such a headache I just gave up.

Talked to the ex and he never had the title transferred into his name either. He just paid the man cash and went on about his business. I found the last owner and spoke to his wife a few years ago when I first got the FJ, but he was sick and likely dying. I'd feel like a vulture calling her up again to see if she could transfer the title into my name. I don't really know what else to do...but this loss is Timm's gain! He will now be the new owner of my 1963 FJ40 cause the dealership won't take it as a trade! Yah! for Timm, for me and for the FJ to go to a good home with someone who will love and cherish it!

I am probably going to put her in storage until Spring....then slowly 'restofy', make it safer to tool around town in with some of my 4 kiddos. We should have the title figured out by then.

Yeah! I 've heard you just have to do flowers in that situation?

Timm, just apply for lost title. Not really that hard. VIN inspection, bond, and a form at the DMV. I had to do it in UT for my M101a. I helped many in Vail when I ran the dealership there.

Awesome, thanks Corbet! Excited to have some old iron again. I had to sell off my 40/55 herd during the divorce....the garage just looked empty without a 40!

so Colorado law says to replace a lot title I have to have:

If your title has been lost, stolen or damaged, you can get a duplicate title by going to your nearest county office. Make sure to bring the following materials:

If your vehicle was purchased on or after July 1, 2006 you must provide appropriate identification.

VIN number and title number.

Payment of $8.20 for the duplicate title.

I found an old registration under the original owner's name that has the VIN and the Title No. Is that enough?

I would think that they would check to see if your ID matches what they have for the current title, and would only issue a lost title to the person who they have listed as the current owner...
