Default Bringing the 1964 FJ40 back to life

I bought this little guy back in 2005 and started base-lining all the fluids. The coolant was a rusty brown so I flushed it and went to bed. That night, the temperature dropped to well below freezing. Most of the freeze plugs came out but it wasn't enough and the damage had been done. A nice 6" crack across the side of the block as well as water in the oil...

DOH!

Travis donated his old engine to the cause about three years ago and it has sat for far too long. Simpson and Ige motivated me enough to get going and we started last weekend. Taking her over to Mike's house to work on a flat surface out of the rain. If it wasn't for these monsoon rains, we would have taken her over to Ige's.

Here are some progress pictures. The valve train on the new engine was swapped with the old because it was cracked in multiple places. We swapped the oil pans, all the accessories, and installed a new rear cam plug (Permatex #1)

We stripped everything off the cracked block that could be salvaged. The engine had oil in the water leading me to believe the crack isn't just on the outside. It was just above the oil galley and must have broken through connecting the water jacket with the oiling of the engine.
