Unhappy Our Dukie fought his last battle

As some of you know we have two Golden's, 9 and 7. They were actually featured in Toyota Owners magazine in the last issue. The caption read something like " The first official dog picture in the mag" Anyway if you have it or have seen it Dukie is the blond one reaching out as far as he could.

Dukie was a rescue that nearly died when we got him due to worms and parasites all throughout his system. We fixed him up and had 6.3 incredible years with him. he was perfect on a leash and never wondered to far when he was off leash. Buca was his "big brother" and he followed him everywhere, through the think brush, into the rivers and even diving for rocks (Dukie wasn't very good at it).

Dukie was diagnosed with cancer about three months and was given 2 to 3 days to live. Sharon took off from work one day and I took the other two waiting for him to die, well the docs were wrong. He made it another 3 months eating special food Sharon cooked for him with a Chinese herb that they take to prevent cancer, not sure if it helped or not but we had him with us for the entire summer.

This last weekend we had planed to go to Christos's party and another one at night, then go to a friends house to watch the game and some shopping. Well Friday night Dukie started to vomit again and not eat at all. We knew this was it so we just hung around the house loved him, let him do whatever he wanted which wasn't much. He did not even play with his ball.

Monday morning we both had to go to work and asked a neighbor to check on him occasionally, she had the unfortunate duty of telling me that he had passed. He looked so peaceful on the deck in the sun but I had a job to do, I cleaned him up since he soiled himself. Washed his paws and face and dried him so I could give him one final brush, he loved being brushed.

Dukie was our kid, he was a clown, a scaredy cat but above all he brought us love every time we came through that door. He had to get some pats in and then go get a ball, it was time to play ball. He would not give us a kiss on the face, that was reserved for little girls and boys. I hope he is up there licking all the kids that left way to early and making them as happy as he did us.

We love you Dukie make sure you kiss every little kid and play with Dutch, Duke and Dashie. 8/04 - 9/11 RIP

I HATE CANCER!!!!!!

Man, this kind of thing just kills me. You were really blessed, and it's a heart breaker to lose such a good dog. Sorry to hear it, Tom.
