Default 81 and older emissions in Denver Area?

Ugh! Steves emissions is out of business! Now where do I go to get emissions on my 40? Anyone know where they are mostly concerned with what comes out of the tailpipe instead of under the hood? It runs perfect, just lacks a couple of details under the hood!

I don't have a recommendation but looks like the list of "independent" emissions testing businesses is getting pretty small based on this:

There's a really small shop that does 81 and earlier tail pipe tests on the corner of Federal and 37th. I used to live down the street and went there a couple of times.

37th and Federal is still there, but they will require yo to have an air pump.

Hmm, must depend on the day I guess. When I went there, I had no problem and my 40 is completely desmogged with a header.

yeah, but yours is a '73, which might be old enough to be off their radar.

To the OP, I just took mine to a standard AirCareCO place, and having the smog pump hooked up, air rail installed, and vacuum lines running hither and thither, they didn't take a second look. But on closer inspection, they would have found out that one of my distributor ports was plugged, and several ports on my '78 carb were plugged, since I have no use for them on a '77. I guess my point is that if it looks like it's all there at first blush, you'll probably get through. However, that was almost 7 years ago, and maybe they're more strict now.

Mine passed at CO air Care a couple of years ago with nothing on it. Maybe it was the technicians first day (or last). I have a box of emissions stuff that was donated to me by a guy on MUD. I think I might as well quit playing the game and just put the parts on and not worry about it . Luckily the 77 doesn't have a whole lot of vacuum madness like the later years.

Update:
In case anyone is interested, I called the emissions ref and was informed if you live in the enhanced emissions area I could pass my 1977 fj40 2f with header and no EGR as long as I installed the air injection system.
So I promptly spent the next couple of hours installing the AI system and went to the Air Care Colorado and passed. Still runs good. I can't tell much of a difference.
Hopefully you wont hear any more of my whining about emissions
