Default 100 series dual battery set up

I am thinking of moving ahead on adding a dual battery set up.

Normally I go out on trips with others but I am considering more solo trips in the near future and would like the added security of a back up battery and running all my stuff on a separate battery.

I would like to keep it simple and low cost and then phase in the extra stuff later. I also wanted to first use my existing battery for the back up battery, reason (cost). Edit..looks like I need to use the diehard Marine for fit size to Christo's battery mount.

I am going to get a Die Hard Platinum for the cranking battery and eventually a die hard marine battery for the second battery.

Other than the mounting brackets, what else do I need for the most basic and low cost set up available?

Waggoner uses the http://www.bepmarine.com/home-mainme...d-vss-275-amps and I think it is working well for him. About as simple and complete as you can find. The Group 31 1700s will fit Christo's battery tray without problem.

I have this and made my own cables. I need to hook it up in the hundy.

throw a battery in the trunk for emergency starting needs if you want the simple solution.

I use a BEP marine switch in the 60 and it works well. I think it is rated at 300 amps. I have winched with it a lot and pretty much never thought about it after installing it.

I think the write up is here somewhere.

Marco's writeup helped me get the job done. The BEP switch he uses has been superseded by the one I have.

Update, I picked up a Sears Platinum Marine 34 on Sat. 219.00

The 31s were an option I was considering but that is a mammoth sized battery, so I went with a 34.

Hoping to install the 34 today.

That's what I've been using for the last 5 years as my second battery. It's held up well and only just recently seems to be weakening a bit (in the sense that it doesn't seem to hold a charge as long when I'm parked for several days). Mine needed a booster to make it tall enough to use the stock trays - I think it's a piece of 3/4" plywood.
