Post Used BFG MTs-Cracked at Lugs: Should I Buy?

I've found (5) BFG MT KM1s with 7-9/32nd of tread on 4 & 13/32nd on the spare for $250.

By the time I get them here and mounted, I think I'll be into them for $450-500.

They are date stamped 2005, and have been on a DD supposedly.

My only concern is they have some cracking where the lugs meet the surface of the tire. I don't know how prevelant it is on the tires, but I wanted to see if others running these have any opinion on this and whether I would be throwing my money away.

The tires are going on my 40, which isn't driven a whole lot.

A new set of 5 will run me $1100-$1200 I figure.

I don't know if my opinion counts or not, but I wouldn't spend that much on a 7 year old set of tires. Think of the damage (to your 40/passengers) that could happen if one separates. They say "6 years from manufacture date." I am guilty of having 10 year old tires on my Packard but they will get swapped out before spring. The body damage from one tire coming apart will cost me more than a set of new wide white walls. I must be getting old to be thinking like that..........

Agree with Carey. Don't spend good money after bad. $500 + travel time to tire shop + time waiting for mount & balance = 2-3 brand new tires depending upon your hourly rate. $250 straight up would probably be worthwhile but not after shipping cost. My .02

Yeah, I am starting to think the same thing. Even though a $1100 set of tires on a weekender 40 is a lot.

I'd pass on those IMO.

what size you looking for? Treadwright may have some in your size for a good price.

About those bf's they run forever even cracking. Have seen many trucks with them, mine included. Seems the tire gets hard when older and cracks some.

The rubber on those is gonna be HARD. Tires won't hook up off road and you would be better served with something else.

33x10.5x15 to run on stock steelies. I wish treadwright had 'em.

I am being real indecisive about this. Might and just wait to see what else pops up.

No personal experiences, but some are weary of retreaded tires. What are you're intentions with this truck? Keep an eye on the for sale section. 33's come up fairly often.
