Default Wide World of Wheeling

Its 2:10 AM local time. I am waiting for a Taxi to take me to meet an guy I have never met, at a gas station I have never been to, and drive 4 hours to another country for three days with a group of strangers who speak a language I don't speak, where its going to be over 100 degrees every day, in sand like Saudi Arabia (like because it may have blown in from there).

What could possibly go wrong! I have enough Rising Sun t-shirts and stickers to barter my way out of anything!

More on Sunday... I hope.

Shalom from Israel. I'm in Herzliya, just north of Tel Aviv. My grandmother moved here 8 years ago, and we just celebrated her 96th birthday. That's the most important thing. So I have to thank Grandma for the Jordan 4x4 adventure because even though I have been visiting Israel since my Aunt moved here in 1969, I have only visited every year since Grandma moved.

I don't know how to begin, and I hope I can do a slideshow, maybe up at Big Choice in a few weeks. "Jeeping" in Jordan was incredible. First, "jeeping" is the generic term here. Four-Wheeling or Off-Roading is not used. With the language differences already, I quickly gave up any idea of describing it any other way.

My host was my new friend Joy Biran. I met Joy though Scott Brady's Facebook page. Ironically, before I came to Israel and after Cruise Moab I went to message Joy and saw pictures of Vendor Night. Turns out that Joy was leading a group of Israelis the same time Cruise Moab was happening. Some of you met his group on Kane Creek the day the 60 axle broke.

Day 1: We met at 3AM at a gas station outside of Tel Aviv. Immediately a taxi stuck in the sand needed a strap. 3AM, Taxi, Sand, woman in shorts and rubber boots, area known for illicit activity. Hmmm. We towed and left. The adventure begins.

Ill put some photos up now. Have to drive to an opening at the Bible Lands Museum in Jerusalem.

Our ride was a newer Nissan Patrol (say Pat-roll). Lots of LandCruisers in Jordan, not as many here. All the rigs in our group were set up a lot like we do in the States. Everyone has Waeco or Engle fridges.

We aired down and got on the sand. We thought this first dune was big. We had no idea what was coming. After 15 years leading in Jordan, Joy knew.

This was true off-road, cross country travel. The tracks blow away with the wind.

more.
Some is a lot like our Moab (to the north of this are the original Moab mountains), but the vast trackless desert, do we have this in the US?
Campsites and food were great too.

Now some Toyotas:

And check out the Petrol/Benzine and Diesel station in the middle. This was rural Jordan. The other places we used had electric pumps. Here it was hand pumped from 55 gallon drums.
