Default Scion FR-S impression

I was over at Robbie's shop at lunch and turned left on my way out. I noticed that Boulder Toyota had an FR-S parked out front, so I swung around and asked to drive it.

Summary: Neat neat neat little car. As far as an affordable sports car with lots of potential, it will be hard to beat these things. Think about what the first generation miata did to the car scene and that's exactly where this car hits, but in a coupe version.

Like the miata, it's underpowered with zero torque, but it completely makes up for that with exceptional handling. The steering, brakes, shifter, everything feels very well balanced. Maybe the gas pedal could be a tick higher for better toe heel, but I wasn't threshold braking to spare the salesman! That and the poor car only has 100 miles on it, I had to go easy on at least one part.

Ergonomics are spot on. The steering wheel placement and just about everything else are where they should be, and even fit a big bloke like myself. I think my only complaint, and I hesitate to call it a complaint, is that the side bolsters are a bit much. Awesome for cornering, but I can see a long drive becoming uncomfortable for wide body adults.

This car listed at $24k. Considering I paid that for my Prelude back in 98, that is outstanding.
I'm calling it right now. This is going to be one of the hottest cars in 2013.

And its a Subaru boxer engine with Toyota fuel injection. With Subaru for the engine, hoping they bring out a turbo version.

Sweet car! and just about perfect, when they're getting to be 10 years old I'll know a 16yo that would probably dig that. uh oh..

No doubt that Subaru will release a turbo for it in a year or two. There is a frenzy on these things at the moment....all of them except the red one I found at Boulder have been pre-sold. I feel lucky I even got to drive one.

Typical dealers too, they really know nothing about the cars. The drone at Subaru told me the two cars were exactly the same. Nope... different lights, different seats, seat heaters, different body options, and so on. Mostly cosmetic, with the exception of the headlights, which are much nicer in the Scooby, but I understand they can be swapped over.

I'm sure there is already a dedicated forum to these things, but if not, somebody go start one now! It's going to be huge.

Dunno, but probably not. Here's the thing Wes, I love all cars, and I used to be a big sportscar nut. I just think they are interesting cars, and remind me a lot of what the miata first was: An enthusiast car that was affordable. That's rare.
