Default An argument for finding a well maintained Toy...

1991 FJ80 3fe. My radiator was letting go at 262k. Replaced it yesterday along with hoses, oil, pcv and air filter. I felt poor after doing it, and figured I would cheer myself up by adding up all the receipts I have for it. I've only had it for a year, and receipts start in September 2004. Missing a lot of oil change reciepts, (hopefully they were done), and that stack still added up to $6468!!! I feel hood rich now!!! My $2400 fj80 just got moved up a rung in the "proud to own it ladder".

Moral of the story: If you want an older truck, hold out for reciepts! I feel much much better about spending a bit of coin on it, knowing I'm not the first person to ever care about the truck.

Cheers,
Matt

Yep, bought my 2000 Tundra in 2009 with 89,000 miles on it, had receipts back to 40,000. Really really good to know the history on the vehicle, has come in handy many times.

When I rationalized selling my 80, I added up everything I could both maintenance and mod-wise, then amortized across my ownership of the vehicle including original purchase price and sales price. In the end I figured somewhere in the $130-$150 per month range was pretty spot on. Not only did that include some pretty darn reliable transportation, but also a lot of fun adventure... totally worth it.

edit: I think some people spend that much on cable television.

Starter down! Up to $6572 after I pickup rebuild parts. I'm almost happy to do it now! My starter parts are about 1% of the repairs made up to this point!

I am really enjoying this skewed view of my repair bills...
