Default The new(ish) trail rig

Basically just a repost from 'Mud, but I just picked up a 1980 here in the Denver area; she has some tub rust, but lots of potential. I've seen 79+ models that were a lot worse on the rust side than this one.

I bought it from a real nice guy who has some knowledge of Rising Sun; he really likes this site like I do and (like me), rarely makes meetings. Anyway, he listed it on Craigslist last weekend and it was a good fit for what I wanted.

OME suspension/greasable shackles with BFG T/A 33x10.50s mud terrains. Aftermarket grey wheels. 200 miles on everything. Drives great. Lots of service records starting in about 1983. Original paint and interior.

My plan is to camp and wheel her starting this weekend. By the end of summer, I will have a light cosmetic restoration done on the body and probably go back to the stock steelies for 1980. The Bestop soft top is also gonna be sold soon, as I have a Paki top and bows on the way. Other than that, just gonna be a fun rig.

Oh...and it is the exact color of my '76, so the neighbors will be very confused.

Once I bought the Bestop I found out about the Paki top and always thought they were better looking. I would be interested in seeing the transformation of my old to me/ new to you FJ.

Take care Carson. It was nice meeting you.

Nice truck! I restored a Jan. 1980 FJ40 2 years ago. I might have a few small parts - running board(s) for sure, and a left rear quarter panel (patch panel). Per my article in TT this month, it likely won't fit as a fender, but could be used for patching.
