Default dizzy bolt size and access?

I'm trying to remove the distributor from my 1976 FJ40 (replacing it with a DUI).
-What's the size of the hold-down bolt (I think it's 11 or 12 mm)?
-Is there any easy way to access it? My crescent wrench
hits the oil filter, and my socket is obstructed by the dizzy body.

Only solution I can think of is to order a "crows foot wrench" of the
appropriate size.

Mine is a 10mm, yours might be different if a substitute non-JIS bolt were used. Try a small extension on your socket, or what I do, is use a ratchetting wrench flipped over to avoid the dizzy diaphram and loosen/tighten a little at a time. GL

I seem to recall it is a 10mm. I have the plates (small plates that keep mud from splashing up) removed and can easily access the bolt from under the truck. That said, I also can access it from the top pretty easy. Use a 12 point combination wrench which will work very well.

I think it's a 12mm (head size) on mine. I used a combo wrench like Ricardo, accessing it from in between the oil filter and the dizzy.

Default Dizzy

Well I loosened the clamp that goes around the dizzy, and once that was loose the dizzy slid right out. Then of course I had direct access to the bolt.

Now on to installing the DUI. Seems straightforward...I'll post up the results.

It is a 12 MM hex head (M8). The 10mm (M6) is the one that locks rotation.
