Default 1973 FJ40 Locker

I think I have decided to do a 'lunch box', based on cost, how I use my 40, ease of install, etc., at least for the time being.
Any suggestions on which one I should get?
Anyone got one they want to get rid of?
Any way to know how many splines I currently have without tearing it apart?

If it matters, gearing is at 4:11 and I am running 33x10.5's for tires.

In other news...New carb from Jim Chenoweth is on the way soon, pretty stoked for that upgrade too!

I ran a used lock-rite for a few years before swithing it out for an ARB and had no issues with the locker. My old one was sold to Mr. Zepp.

Why are you concerned about the number of splines?

Nice to hear about the carb. I have not heard of anyone that was dissapointed with a Chenworth rebuild.

I'm loving my Lockright on my non-DD FJ40. You can look up the application part number for whichever locker you choose, and the spline count will take care of itself. You will have fine-spline inner axles though, I think they're 27-spline, but don't quote me on that.

30 splines axles began in 69 I believe. 30 spline pinions began in 78/79

Matt, 27 spline count is at the Birfield. Bobby's Super axles bump that to 30 spline like the inner axle splines

Mitch, I'm with Wes. Unless you have a strong reason to believe your axles pre-date 69 - you should be fine. Worst case, you find out during the install -so you button it back up and drive until you get the proper locker.

Installing the lunch box locker is an easy afternoon and could be done in a couple of hours.
