Default Transfering a Call Sign

Does anyone know if there is information about transferring a call sign? Or if its even possible? I have been kicking around getting my license, and thought it would be cool to transfer over my grandfathers call sign. But for some reason I can't find any info on the FCC site? (I can start a new thread if necessary).

Yes, you can assume his old call sign assuming he has passed away or stopped renewing it and no one else has claimed it. Check the FCC website under the vanity call sign program. You as a relative do have a special access to the call sign (if for example you present a death certificate) but after a period of time it would become available to anyone.

You could start here and make sure it still available...
http://www.arrl.org/advanced-call-sign-search

Then this explains all the rest
http://wireless.fcc.gov/services/ind...signs_3&page=5

Some callsigns (even vanity callsigns) are available only to certain classes of license holders and you'll have to obtain that specific class if his callsign is/was restricted. Good luck with your test and enjoy!
