Default Halfmoon Gulch and Mosquito Pass 8/16/12

I went up to both with some friends and after meeting in Frisco we finally picked Halfmoon Gulch to go see Champion Mill (a first for us both) and the over Mosquito Pass to get back to 285. We avoided going to the mine as my friend had a stock Jeep and we were concerned about what was labeled as the deepest crossing of the two forks. We came to the crossing with another stock jeep waiting to see someone cross it in a rig more the size as a lift rig and Hummer already wadded across with out clearing their mind about it. My friend as well as I was not to sure about crossing as I walked across with it coming up past my knees, as we were deciding if we should set up our lunch a lift yellow Jeep can up and said that he had done the crossing many a time when his jeep was stock so we decided to do it and made it over with no issues although it seemed deeper than I would have liked it. The other couple in the Jeep turned tail after my friend went after they said they would wait and see if they wanted to it...the want was just not there for them. We finally reached the mill and the group of three in the yellow jeep told us about the mine as the driver has been coming up for more than a decade, he also told us that he has never remembered the crossing being that deep and asked if there were any issues. After that it was back over the crossing then up to Mosquito Pass for the leg of the trip that I have been on before but not the rest of the group and then on home. It was a great day and another beautiful place in Colorado I now long for and when I have a chance next I'll have to try the loop that someone mentioned from another forum. Here's a link to a video of the crossing

Kinda smokey and hazy up there, wasn't it? We were in the Leadville area this past weekend and it was just as smokey there as it has been in Denver lately. Monday morning we drove over Mosquito Pass and sat at the top while it snowed all over us. Fall is coming!
