Default Tree House build

I have been working on something in the back yard for the last 4 weekends..

Wife said "Kids need more stuff to do back here, you need to build them a tree house with a zip line.." I said "ok, lets do it."

I finished the last few boards this afternoon. Glad this project is complete.

I did a fair bit of searching online before I started and had a tree house a few block away that was my inspiration for our project. It was done really well, by a pro, so I decided to copy in theory but not exact.

A few neighbors and friends asked what plans I had to build this, I said none, I was winging it, eyes rolled at me but I have built a redwood deck before and a few fences. How hard could it be, right? It was a major undertaking to say the least but I am happy with it, it is not an eye sore and the kids are nuts for it, so all good till somebody falls out and breaks an arm. It is 7 feet off the ground.

Only thing I am struggling with is the base is not perfect level, the house and siding are dead on but I was off about a 1/4 inch on one side in the very beginning and decided to go with it vs. introduce new wholes into the tree trunks. I guess it will be good for water/snow run off and it leans away from the garage vs. into it.

I had my engineer come by (Rutbeer) and sign off on it before the sides went up.

Anyway, I thought it might be helpful to document the build in case someone else out there is thinking of doing this and needs inspiration to get'er started.

Oh, we picked up a swing from IKEA a while back and I ordered the telescope, binoculars, rope ladder and zip line on line via Amazon.

base

side framing

siding and railing

Project interrupted last Friday Night.. Had wood in the garage, it was raining, figured I could park the 100 series in the alley. Bad idea....
Stereo was confiscated by scumbag whom entered via the passenger window after he broke it.

Bright side, 100.00 deductable get's me upgraded stereo with back up camera. Also, I really can't say enough about the Weather Tech floor mat in the back.
There was glass dust and all of that was caught by the floor mat.

Ok back to the tree house project...

Dude, that is AWESOME

Bummer about the 100 though

I need to come by and check out that zip line - What weight is it rated for?

I have to ask...Either you share a yard with your neighbor or is that a guest house or pool house next to the tree house - looks like a posh setup, that is for sure

Might as well get one more emoticon in here...

Thanks Jeff, The zip is rated to 225lbs. I did it and kind of stretched it but it could hold an adult. The building next to the tree house is our 3 car garage we put in back in 05, when times were good in medical sales and POs were a plenty.. We kind of over did it on the construction. The third bay is my home office.

Here are couple videos of the kids "zipping" So the funny thing about this is Olive is 3, I was prepping the BBQ and I hear in the back ground that she just went for it. She had not done it to that point without me or mom catching her. The fence stop action was new to Ben only but Olive just threw down, classic.

These are links to the videos, I don't know how to post them as videos.

That's so awesome. Nicely done. Tree houses are the best.

If we had a tree like that in our yard, I'd be all over doing something like that. Instead, the es have asked for a stage. My father-in-law drew up the plans and I'm trying to find the time to actually do it. One thing I snuck into it was a movie screen. Anyone for outdoor movie nights?

Chris, that looks great!

I have to laugh at your neighbors though. Plans? What kind of sissy wankers do you live around?

We used to build tree houses out of logs and nails when I was a kid. No adult ever checked or had any say in the tree house design, construction, or safety. The fact that you built the tree house rather than the kids is far safer than anything we ever did.

AND, it looks great to boot!

Also, I'm with Jeff, RS zipline party, ASAP!

Don't new car stereos have encoding that ties them to the ECU, so the stereo without the ECU=worthless?

Maybe if factory stereo was stolen. I had an aftermarket Sony in there.

BTW, I always wanted the Kenwood DNX 5120 or newer but the Sony XAV-64BT is really a great radio for a sub 400.00 price tag compared to the 800-900 Kenwoods.
