Left side over the boot. Right side in the boot. Stops the exhaust from melting the pants until I get around to making a heat shield. I LOVE my Klim Dakar pant. Over the boot is way better in wet or stream crossings. Pockets for phone and food while riding.

the in ones fit tight against my knee/shin guards but don't melt on exhaust. they don't have pockets.

the outies seem nice but will probably melt on exhaust... but they have pockets. they also work a bit better at keeping water out in splashing situations like Farnham said.

Maybe we just need someone with a heavy duty sewing machine to add a couple of cargo pockets to our in-boot mx pants.
