Default Beginner need input of weekend ride

Hello Everyone,

I've been lurking around the site for the past couple of months and reading up on a few things. As the title says I am a beginner although I have done some minimal off roading in my 4runner. I have some time this weekend and wanted to take my 06 LC out for a joy ride. It is a stock LC with AHC and so far no issues with the AHC engaged. I have owned the vehicle for the past 3 months and haven't had time to do much as of late.

I was going to load up my LC as if I was heading out on a camping trip to test out the AHC. I think if it works out and I experience no issues than I was going to put off purchasing my lift. I could than use that money for a few other things. With that being said I was looking for some input on what trails to run this weekend with my son. I was thinking of Shrine pass and catching Benson Cabin to test things out. I haven't been up there in several years and wanted to get your thoughts on those 2 trails and if my stock LC would do okay on a Benson Cabin run. I am open to suggestions but keep in mind I have a stock LC with no aftermarket bumpers/winches and its more of a quick joy ride.

Thanks

You should be fine if those trails are not buried in snow by the weekend. I used to run Shrine Pass as part of my daily commute in a Subaru years ago.

shrine pass would be an easy cruise. Benson Cabin is a steep rocky climb and it's narrow in places so you can expect some mild pinstriping. On the climb I remember a few spots that were technical where momentum was key due to steepness/loosness. Also, there is not really a good place to turn around till you get to the top. If it were my first day out in a new to me stock 100 I might pick something a little bit more tame with less commitment.
