Default Attn: 4runner guys/ mini truck

I am looking for input on a 4runner that Travis aka baja1d found on craigs list . It is a 90 4runner tha needs a 22re engine and 5 speed tranny. also needs wiring harness, exhast and who knows what else. The truck has a 4" lift and 33's. He want's $500.00 for it. Is this a project that might be too much or maybe a good deal. Does anyone here in the club have a engine and tranny laying around that would work for this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. We are thinking about this for our 17 year old Grand daughter who likes to come out on our runs.

you can usually find something similar with a blown engine that all it needs is a rebuild. Sounds like a decent sized project, if you aren't in the mood I'd wait

I'll keep an eye out but I'd suggest looking into an imported engine. My Dad has done this a few times. Apparently, all cars in Japan MUST have their engines replaced before 30k. Those that are removed are usually imported to the US & can be had for significantly less than a fresh engine. I believe they also come with a guarantee.

Thanks Travis and Jeremy, I think we might scratch this idea. Wish I had the money for it . I would buy it for the lift alone he has 2K in that.

I would pass on that rig and buy something that runs, in order to maintain the energy and enthusiasm of the young adult. Looking for, then rebuilding, installing, then working out the bugs/emissions of a drivetrain might be too much in spring when your 17. This is just my opinion of course.

Thumbs down

Personally, if it doesn't have a straight axle, then I'd not do it. I have a 92 and have made a swap. I upgraded the old IFS with 33" tires and then started snapping the weak IFS parts.

That's just my opinion, born through pain

Barry
