A chevy is the same amount of work but 1/3 the cost for both install & future repairs.... Just saying

I suppose the simple route would be to put in a 22RE. What's the mpg difference?

If you mean doing that to the $500 4Runner with the 22R-E and W56, it would not be easier than any other engine swap. The two easiest swaps for the 22R-E are the 3RZ-FE with the bellhousing Marlin has (or had at least) or the L series diesels. Next easiest would be the ones Advance makes adapters for, the small block Chevy V8 or Vortec 4.3L. If the truck already has a 3.0L V6, then the 5VZ-FE is an easy swap, not so with 22R trucks. Someone needs to figure out an easy way to get a 1GR-FE 4.0L AND 6 speed Taco transmission in for a 22R-E...

3RZ will bring mid to high 20's for mileage. Buddy with an 00 Single cab taco on 33's was getting 27-28 hwy before he swapped to a 5VZ.

That said, I'm with the other guys. Put in a new V8. Something with some power. Toy motors are great, but for the hassle of a swap, might as well get all you can.

Well, after some more research and discussion, I am passing on this. It's just too much of a project for me. If it had been complete with a blown engine I might have gone for it. Maybe another one will pop up that's a little better.

Thanks for all the input.
