Question Good place to buy a welder?

I'm ready to buy a welder. Based on various reviews (esp. here on the RS forums), I think I'll buy a Millermatic 211. Any advice on where to buy one? I was thinking General Air or High Plains, since they're both fairly local to me.

General Air off of Sante Fe is the best. Great customer service.

I've got a few things to finish up on my off-road trailer, then some bumper mods. Not sure what comes after that, but it seems like I'm always looking for welding help. I need to own & learn & build.

I know it's not near you, but I had a great experience at General Welding Supply on Walnut Street near downtown Denver. I was very green and the president spent an hour talking me through everything I would need to know to not hurt myself welding. If I remember correctly it was as they were closing on a Saturday and he had no problem sticking around to help me out, also gave me a bag of tips for free. I only bought wire, gas and gloves from there but they were very helpful, also got a good deal on a bottle. I want to say I got one of the 4 ft bottles filled for <$200, which was less then the smaller bottles at AirGas.

I purchased mine from this Ebay seller: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Miller-Mille...item20e4f4f50a

My choices of local retailers is much more limited. I'm more like a captured buyer

One other thing: When I upgraded to the 211 from the 175, they were offering classes for beginners at the time, free with purchase of welder, at General Air. Not sure if that is an ongoing or promotional, one time thing, but its worth looking into. Great way to get going on the basics, plus learn a little about maintenance and service.

You may already be set on that, so it may not be worth it.

Cheers!
