Default Alpine Loop - Animas Forks to Lake City (July 4th)

My wife wants to help out the economics of Creede due to the fires and wants to go spend some money there over the July 4th weekend. Pending the closures due to the West Fork Complex fire, we are planing to go from Animas Forks to Lake City via Engineer Pass and return Cinnamon Pass, or vice versa.

As this portion of the Alpine Loop will be very busy due to the holiday weekend, does anyone know of any great places to camp? Primitive camping is preferred; we will be in the FJ40 and we pack like we are going backbacking, and obviously the . We are planning to depart Durango on the morning of July 4th. Spend a night or two in Creede, then camp overnight (or two) on the return trip. If we feel like it, we may just spend the 4th somewhere on the trail then make our way into Creede.

We have never been on this trail and will be using the "Colorado Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Tails" book as a guide.

Anyone want to join in is welcome. Just be aware that our itinerary is open.

Plenty of spur roads to camp along the loop. Most vacationers will be down in town in their RV's. you should not have to worry much about finding a spot. There is one I like at the bottom of engineer on the easy side with shade and water.
