Default Saints John and Radical Hill 7/27

Awesome day on top of the world. We brought my 2wd FJ40, my brother's '05 TRD OffRoad Tacoma on 33's, and my dad's bone stock '04 4cyl Taco.

We had originally planned to head back to Denver via Middle Fork o' the Swan and eventually out to 285, but with my 4wd on the fritz and never having been over Georgia Pass or the Swan, as well as being lazy and on top of Radical Hill already, we decided to head down Radical Hill and over Loveland Pass.

The area was pretty busy as expected, but it was mostly ATVs, RAZRs, and heavy goat traffic down the road.

The line up on top of Saints John

The dogs had a decent time. They're hard to please.

Heading to the top of Radical Hill after lunch

The goats were shy as usual

After the photo op, they decided they'd go check out the trucks

Tacos rolling down Radical Hill

Checking out the shack at the bottom of the hill

Reggie wore himself out chasing every marmot whistle in the rocks

Almost down

Last crossing before Montezuma

Awesome day, and one of my favorite areas of the state.

Nice shots Zach! Looks like you guys had better weather than we had on Wednesday. Do you know what you need to do on your 40 to get 4wd back?

Money. Haha. We're still not sure. It really seems like the Orion is working. I have both high and low ranges, and my hubs lock the drive shaft, but the fronts tires refuse to do any work. Couldn't even get up the last section of Argentine a couple of weeks ago. Everything was too loose, so I parked at one of the switchbacks and we rolled up in my brother's Taco without even spinning a tire. It probably looks pretty cool to have all the toys on the 40 and not be able to make it up a dirt hill. Haha. I'm having a buddy look at it tomorrow, so hopefully we can get everything worked out here shortly.

I had the same issue with my crawl box- low gears but no driveshaft engagement. I'm leaning towards a linkage adjustment at this point

How was Radical Hill? I have been with a few groups that have approached it from coming down Red Cone pass, basically going up Radical Hill, I think the opposite way you did it. Wondering how the switchbacks and off Camber section is toward the top. Narrow?

Yeah they were a little narrow. My lack of 4wd made the skinniest section a little hairy. I couldn't get up the rocks on the inside of the road so it kept me really close to the outside edge. All is well. A little pucker added to an otherwise relaxing trip.
