Looks like we're getting something pretty close to the truck that just went on sale in Thailand. I'm guessing we'll get some sort of handicapped version- DEF, DPF, automatic transmission only, etc. Still, a compact diesel pickup is enticing... just the sort of thing we'd been hoping Toyota would start selling here for years.

Since Toyota seems to want to make a bigger, fancy Tacoma than I need that does not have the diesel engine I want, you betcha I would consider it. Particularly if it's a world truck with a full, real frame. It ain't rocket surgery, Toyota. Moderate size, simple, reliable, long lasting, easy on gas, reasonably capable. A funky stripe down the side is OK embellishment but I don't need every danged gizmo and gadget under the sun.

Interesting. Makes me want to try and like GM. I didn't look very hard - were any MPG numbers published?

If it depreciates like a Chevy Trailblazer, just wait a few years and pick up one for cheap. Lately, most '4wd' GM stuff has very poor ground clearance, so I'm not sure how good this would be for 'wheeling.

Would it be solid front axel?

I think that would push me over the edge. I really want a pickup with a 4x4 camper on it, for Maze/Powel/Baja trips and Ski weekends. I have been looking at some of these chevy pick ups lately and thinking, hmm do they have solid front axels? Toyota reliability is great but a new Chevy has to be as reliable as a 20/30 year old Toyota, right? Diesel with solid front axel would be my perfect combo, no matter the manufacturer. Living in North America makes it virtually impossible to get the holy grail, 79 series.., at least before I am 74 years old..

Jeep is supposed to do this in 2014 for the Rubicon, so I have heard. They have it for the 2014 Grand Cherokee.. Read it in OJ.

Sell my LC and buy one of these, then I could see picking up a 40 for a project.

This will be a small truck, more similar in size to a Tacoma than a Tundra/Titan/Silverado/Ram. Engine is not a V8 diesel, but a 4 cylinder 2.8L turbo. Same class as the D4D Toyota, for example.

It would be IFS. Period. Very likely cab-on-ladder frame and live rear axle on leaf springs. Pretty much standard construction in small trucks for the last 20+ years.

It's believed to look like this, more or less. Not all that different from the other world trucks out there, Hilux, Ranger, Triton, Navara. They all sorta look like rounded bars of soap to me and all look kinda the same. All said I'll take mine in Toyota flavor, the reputation of the Hiiux being what it is. But I have a sneaky suspicion that this truck is more 'truck' than the Tacoma and that would be fine.

I like the shorter bed and 4 door look.

I think I would lift it, put big tires on it and call it a day, after adding a 4x4 camper and Ham radio. Maybe a bumper and winch some day.

For what I am doing, I just don't see the need for all the extra stuff.

Looks like it will be around 25 mpg depending on configuration. No official word about how well the NA version will perform. Considering the kind of mileage Dodge is getting out of the V6 gas motor, it had better be at least 25.
