Default 2F head differences - casting numbers

2F engine head question:

2F engine heads dated 7501-7602 have a casting number of 61030
2F engine heads dated 7608-8007 have a casting number of 61031

Does anyone know offhand what the real differences are in these heads, since there isn't an obvious physical difference? Are they interchangable (favorably or otherwise) on a '77 block?

Thanks,

Steve

Default Head casting number #

I purchased a rebuilt head recently from a guy on Craigslist. He told me it was for an "F" motor, which is what I need(ed). I went to put the head on the block and the small pillars on top don't line up with the holes on the bottom of the head. The casting number is 60200. Can anyone help me with this? What year is this head?

Thanks!

From FJ40Jim:
"the 77-80 heads w/ 61031 casting are a slight improvement over 61030, plus it has the extra coolant temp ports cast over (one less crack/leak point)."

They are both open chamber heads so I would say they are interchangeable.

Matt - thanks! Mike (simps80) and I compared his photos and my head last weekend, and both the 61031 and 61030 had the same number of coolant temp ports. We could see no real difference. If I ever have the two, side by side, off the truck, I will document the difference, since there isn't a ton of info on this.
