Default Where and how much to powdercoat

Looking at this bumper

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/1524837-post1.html

Since it ships in plain steel would need to get it powder coated. Would like to get it the same finish as an ARB front

Rachel's last 4runner bumper was painted and not powder coated. Over the years we had to strip it down twice to repaint it because of the rust. I don't want to paint it

There were lots of good sliders out there and would have bought some from addicted off road, but I preferred powder coated so got them from White Knuckle. I know they get scraped up and I use black rustolem to touch up, but that is just touch up no the entire unit.

Appreciate any input

I used colorado powdercoating off of I76. Great guy, usually charges 100 bucks for a bumper.

I used a shop up just south of Longmont...I think the address was Frederick? Probably too far for you coming from Aurora, but they do great work. I think I saw some of Slee's bumpers being done when I was picking up my stuff?

Ken, I'd expect to pay about $100 for a bumper to be powder coated in basic black. Little more for the swig arm if your going that way.

That bumper linked in the first post looks nice. My only concern would be the pivot design on the swing arm. I've seen that design from a number of 4R suppliers. Looks a little exposed IMO but I don't have any personal experience. The spindle designs we are accustomed to in the LC market are a better design IMO. I guess I'd just ask them if that can take a big hit dropping off a ledge without causing the hinge to bind.

I think the 80 & 100 series rear bumpers are larger than what you see in Hilux/Taco and 4Runners so you get used to seeing overbuilt bumpers. People are less willing to spend $2,000+ on a bumper that weighs 200 lbs.

The basic 4Runner CBI rear bumper weights 140 lbs with a tire carrier and sells for $1,300 before powder coating and the one for the Tacoma (which lacks the rear quarter panel wings) is $1,050 and 75 lbs.

Also seems people are more concerned with departure angle in the mini truck world, so they attempt to build bumpers that fit more snug rather than acknowledge that it's gonna drag and build accordingly.
