Default Colorado Connection

I know many in the club became hams so the could access the ColConn system and now they need your help.

THE COLORADO CONNECTION, INC.
BULLETIN
JULY 5, 2014

As you are probably already aware, The Connection has been volunteer and donation operated system since it's beginning. We have one of the best technical committees in Ham radio, we also have had many volunteer helpers for technical and many other management tasks that we do on a monthly basis. We also operate strictly on donations of cash and some saleable or useable equipment. We thank all of you for all of your help in both efforts.
We now have the luxury of having a very reliable system that is serving the Colorado Ham community and many nonprofit groups very well.
However we have a problem with a serious decline in the number of cash donations we have been receiving over the past year. The cash is essential to pay our rent at repeater sites and our utility bills at those sites as well as insurance costs. There are also occasional upgrades to equipment as well as damage from weather to pay for.

We need your help with cash, organizing fund raising promotions, or any other ideas or efforts that comply with the IRS 501C3 nonprofit tax laws and the FCC ham radio regulations. This is an immediate need as we do not want to loose any of our sites or shrink the system to be able to cover the monthly expenses.
You may donate via PAYPAL or Credit Card by going to our Website colcon.org (the PAYPAL link is on the opening page just click on it) or mail a donation to THE COLORADO CONNECTION, INC., P.O. BOX 22134, DENVER, COLORADO 80222.

Your ideas on these problems are also welcome at kb0vjj@colcon.org.
Thank you for your continuing support
THE COLORADO CONNECTION

Moneys given, thanks for the heads up!

ColCon is a great system for all hams in Colorado and has great potential to enhance communication and safety for our own club activities.

I need to start remembering to support them each year, the help is badly needed but you never hear a lot of stumping for funds on the airwaves which sure is nice.

Donated. Thanks for the heads up. The CC is about the coolest thing ever for people who spend a lot of time in the back country.

From the ARRL website. One of the primary reasons so many of us became hams and perfect example of why we should help keep the connection up and running:

Ham Radio Aids in Rescue of Injured Colorado Hiker

TAGS: Amateur Radio Newswire, Colorado Springs, distress, ham radio, hand-held transceiver, John Bigley, paramedics, repeater network, Rocky Mountain Rescue
07/24/2014

While Bill Eberle, AB0MY, of Boulder, Colorado, and his wife Mary were hiking in the back country on July 21, they encountered a team of paramedics rendering aid to a 67-year-old man — Michael Schuett, of Broomfield, Colorado — who had lost his footing while crossing a stream near the Fourth of July Campground west of Nederland, Colorado. Schuett had struck his head on a boulder and was found unconscious and face down in the water by a Good Samaritan, who pulled him to safety. The paramedics, who had been heading to a youth camp, also had stumbled onto the scene.

With no cell telephone coverage available, Eberle put out a distress call on the hand-held transceiver he always takes along when he hikes. Promptly answering his call on the statewide Colorado Connection Repeater system was Ryan Frederick, KD0TSZ, in Colorado Springs. Frederick contacted the Boulder County Sheriff's office. The authorities quickly turned to Scott Whitehead, KA0QPT, of Longmont, a sheriff’s department radio specialist and 30-year veteran of the Rocky Mountain Rescue Team. Whitehead was able to contact Eberle via the repeater network, and the two coordinated equipment and rescue personnel.

Crews from Nederland Fire and Rescue and the Rocky Mountain Rescue Team arrived on the scene within due course, and Schuett was evacuated from the scene, treated at an area hospital, and released. Schuett credited ham radio for bringing the rescuers to him.
