MATT'S GUIDE TO CHICAGO-STYLE PIZZA

Going to Chicago and want an authentic Chicago-style pizza experience?

Start with Dues on Ontario. One of the original deep dish pizza places... All of the other deep dish pizza joints developed from Unos and Dues. Unos was the original, Dues was their second restaurant. The atmosphere at Dues is much better than Unos, and I actually think the pizza is a little better. Say "Due-As" -- Italian for "two."

FYI: If you've been to a "Pizzeria Uno" outside of Chicago, it's not the same. They licensed the name, but didn't give away any of the recipes. The original two restaurants are amazing. The knock-offs are disappointing.

Ginos East is another great place for true Chicago style pizza.
Lou Malnati's and Carmen's Pizza are both fantastic as well, but hard to find.
Bachino's is wonderful as well, and in a fun area (Old Town / Lincoln Park).

Edwardo's is ok -- lower on my list, but still better than anything we have in Denver.

Giordano's Pizza is weak -- don't go there. Seriously. Don't. The pizza is nothing but gooey cheese, and you'll wonder what all the fuss is about when people talk about Chicago style pizza.

Leona's didn't make the list? My go-to pie is a stuffed garlic, chicken and artichoke from Leona's.

If you have a fridge in van, I'd take a stuffed pizza or two.

Leona's is in its own category. But I always preferred them for their Italian food. If I just wanted a pizza fix, I always went to Carmen's.

Lou Malnati's butter crust is the best. No longer hard to find all over the area with 48 locations.

I would like a Portilo's beef, dipped, with hot giardinerra and a slice of chocolate cake.

Dont forget to stop by the Weathertech factory store in Bolingbrook.
