Default 2014 Fishing Report

Thought I'd start a Fishing Report thread for this year for folks to post up where they've been.

I just came off the Bighorn River. Flows were 7600 CFS and have now been bumped up to 8500. That's BIG water, even for Montana. Last year I fished it a few times at 1900CFS. Water temp is 39. Fishing was still very good, but getting your flys down is the key. I fished a 10ft leader with 2 RS-2's about 18" apart. Lots of weight. Fish are stacked up in the slow water.

The South Park reservoirs are open and full. With all the moisture still up high, our only options here in Colorado will be still water and tailwater rivers for a little while.

Going back up to the Bighorn in a few weeks and still planning on doing a RS fish/camp/wheel event.

May 2 I was on the Arkansas for the caddis hatch. Fishing (and catching) were very good. Flows were high, but water was clear. Fished at Texas Creek and the mouth to Bighorn Sheep canyon. Caddis pupa dropped off a hi-vis caddis did well until the bugs really hit the water - after that fish keyed in on black body caddis dries.

They are outwitting a fish with a brain the size of a peanut. And they sometimes don't win. :-)

Roger that, putting "take Steve fishing" on the bucket list.

Yes, you can sling a worm and it will work just as well - but as we live in a modern and overly complicated world - just make sure the rules allow you to sling worms.

Yes, that is why they call it "fishing" instead of "catching"

I'm still in hysterics over the peanut claim!
