Default Front 40 seat belts, 3 or 4 points?

Looking at upgrading my lap belts in the 40 since my little man is now my copilot. 3 points with a retractable feature would be ber daily friendly. 4 points might add some safety off road, but seem a little more restrictive on road.

The costs are nearly the same.

What say you?

If you were going to be wheelin' a lot on iffy trails, I'd say invest in the 4 pointers. But for dual purpose, on/off road use and mild trails (which I think is your usage), the standard shoulder belt is a bit more "user friendly." I've got the 3 pointers in my 40 mounted to the roll bar and the tub.

I had 4 points in a scout, and the issue is, they are such a pain that you almost never use them. You end up with just a lap belt.

Go with the user friendly, unless you see yourself doing a lot more crawling where roll overs are more frequent.

The stock 3 point in a '76 40 work just fine. Kept me safe when I rolled mine in 1989.

For street 3 point belts. Also, I'd only do 4 point belts if the vehicle had a GOOD roll bar. the kind that you are certain would keep your head from being crushed if you rolled... Not the OEM one. 3 point belts allow you to fall to the inside of the car in a rollover. Also they allow you to grab that paper that's about to blow out, or the coke can that's rolling around the passenger side floor board.
