Default Mosquito Pass, Ptarmigan Pass, And Red Cone

I will be leading an expedition on Friday, August 15th over Mosquito Pass into Leadville then out Hwy 24 where we will take Hornsilver Rd up towards Ptarmigan Pass and end up back out on 70 just this side of Vail. Then I'm going to get off 70 at Georgetown and go over Guanella pass and camp at the end of FS rd 119.
Then on Saturday the 16th I want to run Red Cone. Depending on whether Webster is open, we'll then decide which side of that to come down on.

For those of you who don't know… Mosquito Pass will be a moderate to difficult trail depending on what the snow (and jeeps) have done to it. But I did run it a couple years ago when my Tacoma was stock with no issues.
Hornsilver Rd is pretty easy, except for one intense hill climb that nearly made me have to change my pants last year. Then the descent down the other side will involve some running through a creek and some tight squeezes. But nothing TOO difficult, unless you're just really fond of you're paint.

Who's in for some or all of this?

Again, this will be friday the 15th and Saturday the 16th. And depending on the mood after Red Cone, we might even camp out again. But that will be seen at that time.

We're in. Hopefully I'll have my rear locker in by then.

Sounds like fun Travis and I'll see what I can do once you decide on a date.

Because there are so many things coming up over the next few weeks, It's best if you just pick a date, post it and go. Otherwise, there ends up being a bunch of posts about people's plans and your stuck trying to pick a date. August is a busy vacation month but you can always find a few takers. 100s in the Hills, 40's only and RS Rally all happen on Saturdays in August too.

Mosquito Pass was one of the first trails I took my 100 on when it was totally stock. Really nice trail but I haven't been back since. If I can make it, I'll probably head back another way to avoid I-70 on a weekend.

Wish I could make it but we have 4 weddings and a camping trip already planned in August. Summer is flying by and haven't even been out wheeling besides Cruise Moab

This has been pushed back one week from it's original date.

I'm shooting for Friday the 15th.

The general plan of the run has not otherwise changed.

We're leaving this Friday at 7:00 AM.
Going over Mosquito pass to Leadville and then up 24 to Ptarmigan pass. Most likely camp out friday night somewhere on Turkey Creek road just out of Red Cliff.

If anyone is interested, now is the time to post up.

We have a very flexible plan for Saturday and Sunday. But it looks like we will most likely be wheeling around the Leadville/Holy Cross area. (Although, we've decided to not to do the Holy Cross City trail at this time.)

Anyways, there it is.

We should be back Sunday evening.

I know it looks like it'll be just us, but I am super excited for this trip. I don't think I've ever had just an adventure type trip. It's always been destination oriented.

We'll post up reports!
