Default 14th Annual Blow Off Work and Go Wheelin' Run (BOWAGWR)

After speaking with Hulk, he is extremely busy with other endeavors again this year and I am committed to continuing this fantastic Rising Sun tradition. Once again, I am humbled to lead this storied event.

BLOW OFF WORK AND GO WHEELIN' RUN (14th annual)
Date: Wednesday, July 9th 2014
Meeting time: 1:00 p.m. Depart @ 1:30 p.m.

Amazing.....14th Annual!

Please come join Rising Sun for the 2014 Blow Off Work And Go Wheelin' Run. The idea is to leave work early and meet up with new and old friends alike for some easy/moderate trails and good company. As of right now, the plan is to run Twin Cone with Slaughterhouse Gulch as the alternate. Last year, we split into two groups with one group running Slaughterhouse and the other running Red Cone . Everyone seemed to enjoy that, so we may try a split group again, but I see no reason to do that. No one will be left behind and we will have enough to send a few to each trail, but Twin Cone is easily doable by all and only a few miles further west on 285. Dinner is provided by Rising Sun 4x4 Club after the event.

Trails:
Slaughterhouse Gulch. The trail is mild/moderate. It's fine for stock Cruisers, 4Runners, FJ Cruisers, etc. There is a hill with some good optional whoop-de-woos if you're locked and lifted. It's near Bailey, off of 285.

Twin Cone page 2 has more info on this trail. It looks as though this will be what we'll run. Red Cone is still blocked by snow on Webster

Red Cone. This trail is moderate and more difficult than Slaughterhouse. Sliders are recommended for just one area, but we can stack enough rocks to make it a non-issue. Good tires are more important here as there are a few tire biting rocks. There is a good chance this trail will not be clear of snow by the 9th, so this may be out anyway. In that case, we'll all be on Slaughterhouse which is the traditional BOWAGWR trail anyway.

Last year's double run trip reports.

I'm in. This was a lot of fun last year. My boss' expression was priceless when I told him what BOWAGWR stands for. He rolled his eyes and said yes just like last year. I can't believe it has been a year. Last year was my first time out in my current 4Runner.

In! (pending changes in work travel)

Dang - we're out. Have to head out in the afternoon. I'm not doing a very good job at blowing off work...

Subbed. I haven't missed this run since Matt's inaugural some 12 years ago. Led it a couple years when Matt couldn't.

I'll have to close the store, but that's the point isn't it?

I am in for this run. So is Nick Andrews in his 100. Probably won't want to do Red Cone just because it makes for a long day starting at 1:30. Especially if the Montezuma exit is still closed due to the washout. Maybe we could do another trail, like Twin Cone or something if people are down for it.

Does anyone ever bring young kids on this run? I'm actually taking this day off to take care of my son...so I've already got the blowing off work part covered!

Absolutely, I've done it. Even to pizza afterwards.. I've taken them out of daycare for this. Unfortunately though I don't think I can swing it this year, my latest gig isn't quite as easy to "blow off" as in years prior. I'll see though..
