Was signed up last year and only got a pre-call, never the real thing. I didn't think we had to sign up again this year if we were signed up last year???? If so I will.

The mailer they send out about a month ago was for a get together BBQ at the Elks lodge up north, couldn't go but it was said to be good BBQ.

Hope for snow snow gods

if you're already signed up you shouldn't have to sign up again. I just got a pre-call last night. Tim, if FEAT calls you then you probably won't be going to work anyway. Sometimes, but not since I've been doing it. They do a pre-call if the forecast is 6" or more. The give you actual calls if it's deep enough that front-wheel drive cars are actually having trouble moving around.

Also they totally work around your day job. All of the calls I've been on have been late evening/night.. but it has been a few years it just hasn't snowed that hard lately. Maybe this year will be different, depending on which farmer's almanac you read.

Yeah, I got the precall last night - got my stuff in the truck, full tank of gas, ready to go....

Like Tim said, if you're thinking about signing up, do it. You're not transporting sick people or anything, its just "essential personnel" who can't get to work, so if you can't do it they just find someone else.

I've never been called during work (and I think I've been signed up for 4 or more years now?) - all of my runs have been around hospital shift changes - 2:00am, 5:00am, 7:00am, etc...

It's a very low stress way to give a tiny bit back to the community - and you get to play with your truck - in '06 I had to drive a nurse from way down by the airport up to Broomfield, thought I would take the tollroad - got to the Flatirons entrance and a State Trooper was closing the road (this was at about 4:45 in the morning or so). I pulled up and told him what I was doing, showed him my FEAT paperwork and didn't even have to ask - he just told me to be careful. I now know from experience that the mighty 4runner can cruise at 55+ in over 14" of unplowed snow on an empty 4lane highway. It's a lot like driving a boat, complete with spray from the wake. That experience alone made me a lifetime FEAT volunteer.

Then I got to pull a car out of a ditch on the way home, one of my favorite things to do. So I hope I get called tonight.

Edit: Just realized that I should put a caveat in here: Volunteering for FEAT in no way authorizes you to drive on closed roads, or drive to fast for conditions, or do anything unsafe, illegal of even fun. Had the Trooper said go around, I would have gone around. Had there been any chance of anybody else being on the road, I would have slowed way down. Be safe out there.

X2 Anyone know the phone number(FEAT) for the employees that need rides into the hospitals and clinics? My daughter was asking me today and I could not find it on the web site.
