Default 4wd at last!

Finally back on the road..got my transfer case rebuilt and back in. Put in all new fuel lines, filters, and a new fuel pump, All new grade 8 hardware on the driveshafts. All set to go, this truck had a mangled transfer case when I bought it in july and I was ready to test it out and see if my blood sweat and tears paid off. I have a steep driveway that's all covered in snow which I thought would be a very good test of the 4wd. So I got the whole family out side to watch....with cameras no less. I put it in 4wd and low and started to crawl up my driveway. I got it half way before stalling out with one back wheel spinning, tried it again, same thing, and another time, 10 times in all. Bout now my wife walks out and say's "doesn't it work?" "Leave me alone, dammit" so I'm crawling under the truck in the snow, swearing, and I can't concieve as to what could be wrong why the front wheels won't engage. I did everything right, checked it twice. And then it becomes painfully clear what a dumbass I can be at times....Didn't lock the hubs lol Well, after that I was driving all over everything, having a good time. My headlights quit for some reason but thats small stuff. Having a 2wd fj40 kind of defeats the purpose huh? Needless to say I couldn't be happier..

Thank you, I know it's no frame off rebuild, but it's the first time I attempted anything like this, and I'm well pleased with how it turned out.

Good job! It's a great feeling to do it yourself. That "forgot to lock the hubs" is more common than you might think.

"didn't lock the hubs."

Congrats on getting it fixed. Just in time for some snow wheeling!

Nice!

Just get a rear locker - then BOTH rear wheels will spin!

That's funny Nick. I always manage to do something like that.

Glad you got it back in ok and everything works. You did a much nicer job cleaning up the case than I did when I pulled mine to replace the gaskets

Congrats!
