Default Blast From the Past - Dave Spratlen

I got a phone call at work the other day, a guy asked if I could do a 3D scan of a pair of cowboy boots. I said "sure bring them in and we'll see what we can do". The guy's name was David.

So he comes in on Thursday with the cowboy boots, they are a child's size, maybe for a 3 or 4 year old. Cool, he wants to digitize them, kind of like bronzing, only for eternity.

I keep a folder on the server for each customer's 3D models so to create the folder to save his files to, I asked his last name. Spratlen.

I told him, "What a coincidence, I had a Land Cruiser friend named Dave Spratlen". He said "That was probably my dad". Needless to say, we then commenced on a long discussion of all things Land Cruiser, his life growing up in a Land Cruiser family, his 40 and his dad's 40, his FJC and his dad's FJC, etc.

Cutting to the chase in this post, for those of you who are new to Rising Sun, Dave Spratlen (and his wife Linda) was a founding force in the first several Cruise Moabs, he was Rising Sun Commander when I joined in 1999, and led my first trail run with Rising Sun so I could get voted in.

Dave is now retired, has moistly gotten past his health issues and is thriving, still lives in Littleton, and does son David II.

The story of the cowboy boots is worthy of at least another post in this thread, or if I can talk (son) David into joining and posting here he can explain the heartwarming story.

Wow, small world isn't it? I met all of them when we were living in Denver and attending the Rising Sun meetings! Well, I met them at work, they had a Maserati we were restoring from David father to David son. Often enough they showed up there to check the car while driving their TEQ badged wheels and we got to talk about Cruisers a few times! Once I invited them to Rising Sun and I found out they had hands on laying the foundation blocks of the club!
