Default Coarse spline rear/lockers upgrades...

If my cruiser history/knowledge is correct...

67 Axles, coarse spline front/rear...

the front is covered with a mini setup for now...the rear is just stock...

soooo....for lockers/strength...I'm guessing it would be better to step up to a later axle such as 70's or later just to have the fine spline axles correct?

The axle has the brakes redone and is SOA...

so the question could I get a later 70's axle and use the shafts/3rd member and put a locker in there? Any other issues that I should be thinking about? axle seal differences? etc?

Hi Ben,

Ideal for the front would be to directly swap in a 76-78 front axle, disc brakes and all. Yes, a 69 or later 3rd member and axles might do it in the rear. Maybe you can find a front & rear pair from the later model cruiser and swap them both over. If you do, grab the drive shafts also cause the flange pattern is bigger and stronger. Grab the parking brake drum to match, however the later model drive shaft will be shorter. If you end up putting in a SM420 it is the same length as the 4-speed so you will be fine. I know, TMI.

cool, thanks for the info...

the front already has the mini-disc swap so I'm all setup there...just the rear is still 67...sounds like I'll pick up the rear/axle/setup...and just swap or replace the whole axle and resetup the perches...
