Default Must have missed a couple of gaskets...

When I replaced the 3FE in my sons FJ62, it started to leak - oil and transmission fluid - not just a couple of drops either....
I replaced the timing cover gasket and the oil pan gasket - no improvement.
My son is home from Western State starting on Thursday - think I'll pull the engine and see what gives - If anyone with 3FE experience is around Thursday, Friday or the weekend, I could sure use some help troubleshooting the source of the leaks..... and good food provided!
TIA, Rob

Rob, one of the best things I can suggest is get after it with a good engine degreaser, and a pressure hose and get it clean.

Once clean, let it sit for a while or run at idle then, start to look for leaks. Gotta be easier than pulling the whole shibang.

That is a bummer, you will get it!

Yea - Thursday morning is degreaser morning - gonna need a case.....
You're right, pulling the engine is a big pain - done it a couple of times. If after cleaning we can see where all the leaks are coming from and don't need to pull it, we'll be v e r y happy!!!!!
I have a feeling we'll need to replace some seals around the transfer case, though....

Well, the transfer case doesn't have either ATF or engine oil in it so try to determine if it smells like diff oil or not. If I can help Rob, you know I will. No plans for the coming weekend unless the raffle truck needs work.

Thanks Steve - may have to take you up on your offer - it's definitely oil from the front - my guess is the timing cover gasket, and atf from the transmission - not too familiar with automatics, so not sure what that would be - I did replace the transmission pan gasket, so that's not the culprit....

Did you mess with the rear main seal?

Did replace the rear main when we rebuilt the engine, but the oil leak seems to be from the front area.....

Is it on one side more than the other?

Don't think so - seems to be coming from right around the timing cover, top of the oil pan area - very hard to tell until we give it a good cleaning....problem is, I've already replaced both the timing cover and oil pan gaskets and the leak hasn't improved, so I'm kinda stumped...
