Exclamation Frauds, Phishing, Warnings, and Chain Letters

Got this from a friend and apparently is checks out as being real...

I guess it isn't all that new (Snopes states since '05) but I don't recall hearing this one before so I figure I would pass it on...

JURY DUTY SCAM: This has been verified by the FBI (their link is also
included below). Please pass this on to everyone in your email address
book. It is spreading fast, so be prepared should you get this
call. Most of us take summons for jury duty seriously, but enough people
skip out on their civic duty that a new and ominous kind of scam has
surfaced. The caller claims to be a jury coordinator. If you protest
that you never received a summons for jury duty, the scammer asks you for your
Social Security number and date of birth, so he or she can verify the
information and cancel the arrest warrant. Give out any of this information and
bingo; your identity just got stolen.

The scam has been reported so far in 11 states, including Oklahoma, Illinois,
and Colorado. This (scam) is particularly insidious because they use
intimidation over the phone to try to bully people into giving information by
pretending they're with the court system. The FBI and the federal court system
have issued nationwide alerts on their web sites, warning consumers about the
fraud. Check it out here:

Default Just say "NO!"

No offence Jeff but please don't post chain letters on the forum. There is more than enough of them everyday in my (our) in-boxes.

Thanks!

No offense taken UB

Maybe Wes can just delete the thread? Or I guess I could, but what is the fun in that

Ok I'm disagreeing. thanks for the warning Jeff, I hadn't seen this one before.

I'd rather glance at something here than get another email, what's so wrong with a recurring thread about fraud, phishing, etc? Would fit right in with the Humor thread and Craigslist thread.. both are easily ignored if you don't care or already know everything.

I found it of value too - as long as you check it for validity (as opposed to what my sister does ) which you did.

Yeah yeah, post 'em up. BTW I sure wish you'd forward that email to 600 people like I asked so I can get my $10,000 from Bill Gates. I heard from a guy who's sister's boyfriend was a lawyer and he got paid last week.

ps, don't flash your lights at any Heeps..

Default Caution!

Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys.

When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback, so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back.

It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow coloring and sold it to people to use in place of butter.

How do you like it? (They have come out with some clever new flavorings.)

DO YOU KNOW...the difference between margarine and butter?

Read on to the end...gets very interesting!

Both have the same amount of calories. Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams compared to 5 grams.

Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.

Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods.

Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few only because they are added!

Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavors of other foods.

Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than 100 years.

And now, for margarine...

Very high in trans fatty acids.

Triple risk of coronary heart disease.

Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good
cholesterol)

Increases the risk of cancers up to five fold.

Lowers quality of breast milk.

Decreases immune response.

Decreases insulin response.

And here's the most disturbing (and interesting) fact....

Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC!

This fact alone was enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).

You can try this yourself:

Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded area.

Within a couple of days you will note a couple of things:

No flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something!).

It does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value.

Nothing will grow on it. Even those teeny weenie microorganisms will not find a home to grow.

Why? Because it is nearly plastic.

Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?

Share This With Your Friends..... (If you want to "butter them up")!

Chinese Proverb:

When someone shares something of value with you and you benefit from it, you have a moral obligation to share it with others."
