San Juan National Forest Land Use Planning!
Get Involved with the San Juan National Forest & Field Office Land Management Process!
December 14, 2007 – San Juan National Forest and BLM’s San Juan Field Office have prepared a Draft Land Management Plan (LMP)/Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for 1,867,800 acres in Archuleta, Conejos, Dolores, Hinsdale, La Plata, Mineral, Montezuma, Montrose, Rio Grande, San Juan and San Miguel counties. These public lands under are managed under Service First, which is a partnership between the Forest Service and BLM. Thus, the planning revision process for the respective areas of both agencies falls under one plan. The Plan will address recreation and travel management generally, and under the preferred plan, Big Gypsum Valley is listed as a proposed Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC). OHV use will be limited to designated routes within the ACEC.
Comments on the Proposed San Juan Land Management Plan must be submitted by March 13, 2008. Comments may be submitted by fax at (916) 456-6724, by going to clicking here or by mail at:
