Default Synthetic Gear Lube

With the weather the last couple of days by transmission has been telling me it's not too terribly enthusiastic about working with thick, cold lube. It's no spring chicken anymore and the 2nd gear syncro is also getting pretty balky even in good weather. So it's probably time to give 'er the good stuff for the winter so that I don't destroy the syncros with gear lube syrup. I've always just used regular Castrol Hypoy-C, but have wanted to use synthetic for a while. Thing is I can rarely find enough bottles of one weight to bother buying it. I would need about 5 for the tranny and t-case and another 3 or 4 for the axles. I'd rather get it locally or at least have a source locally. So who stocks synthetic gear lube in real quantities?

Napa seems to have a good stock of Royal Purple these days plus. You can order it online easily too.

I buy Redline gear oils from Flatirons Tuning in Boulder (Acura/Subaru dealer) for about $9 / qt. It's a pretty good price for Redline, and its local. They carrry the 75-90 gear oils and the MT-90 for manual trannys.

Not convenient for you, but I'm sure a Northsider could help you out!

On Track Performance stocks Redline. You may have to order MT-90, which is what you want to run. On *our* side of town!

3R over on Kalamath says they stock the full line and said they have MT90, too. Never been to either 3R or On Track, though.

I found the redline MT90 improved second gear a bunch too. I'm running it in my current $107 junkyard R151F transmission that was abused until it broke. ($50 for the broken tranny, and $57 worth of parts.) I didn't want to put any more money in a junk transmission, but it works OK so I filled it with redline MT-90 and have been driving it for what? 5 years?

3R is good too. Fun shops.
+1 on the wonders of MT90.

Money in a junk tranny? The R151? You are a little over $200 away from making that puppy a very much non-junk transmission, d00d, should it need it. That is what I run in the Chili.

So simple, even an 80 guy could do it:

If you have to have it that day On Track will probably have it but be prepared to leave a limb . Better off ordering it. I don't know anything about 3r

3R cut me a deal on my bucket of Redline gear lube but I pulled my Dealer card on that one. The street price was still competitive from memory though.
