Default Thoughts on quick disconnects.

What are your thoughts on these quick disconnects for CB antennas? Good idea? Bad idea? Does it effect transmission/reception quality?

I haven't found a QD that didn't rattle or wobble that was reasonably priced. I've heard you can squeeze the fitting with pliers to snug it up, but I'm likely going to buy a brass one since brass is naturally sticky and should eliminate wobble.

Here's the one I like but it costs more than my antenna

what about an nmo mount? they still screw on, but large base is easy to grab and only a few turns an the antenna is off.

I have those on my 40. They work good but get dirty easily. I put them on to switch between the shorties or the long antennas easily. Truth is the shorties work good enough most of the time.

I have this exact mount. works great. I'm pretty sure my whole truck will always squeak louder than that mount.

I use that disconnect for my CB antenna and have never had a problem with it...even with the long FireStik antenna that has to put a load on it hitting trees and such.

Yes it does. If you're concerned about performance NMO is much better and as Ige mentioned only slightly less convenient. But does it matter? Probably not. Adding a QD is making marginally bad into plain old bad.

Ok. Thanks guys.

Here's another question. If I have it all tuned with the QD, do I need to retune if I remove it from my setup?

Ideally yes.

The QD does two things here, one is it adds electrical impedance because it's not a great conductor (for various reasons) and second it adds physical length so the antenna itself when it was tuned was made slightly shorter to compensate.

This is the same with the spring, BTW.

But truthfully it may not change much in this case.
