Default land use grant money info

the second round will be granted in september to award the excess $700,000, so now's the time to start working on grant requests. the website where the applications are available is http://Parks.state.co.us

click on "programs", then "ohv programs", "grants" and finally "ohv grants".

in the future, there will be over $3 million available and the regular grant season is from sept 1st with applications due dec1.

gene king really wants the ohv community to use up ALL of this money and says this is our way of letting gov't know that we are here and we care.

gene will gladly help anyone with their grants. here's his email Gene@bigbluetoy.com. i also have his phone number, pm me if you need it.

Good place to post up ideas of where to use the grant money!
LHC comes to mind, but that is the domain of Trail Ridge Runners.

Been discussed, IIRC Dave was playing a role. Needs a sponsor / leader to make it happen. Would that be.... The TLCA Exec VP?

Sorry, been swamped this week between work and hitting crunch time for the PE (just 4 more weeks!).

Anyway, I have a couple of contacts for GPS units, but that's as far as I got. We need to come up with a proposal of just what we want to do. I just said we wanted to get GPS units to map trails and that's about as specific as I got. I had the feeling that we need to be careful not to step on anyone's toes at the state association or otherwise, not to mention we need to decide if this is even a club thing or not.

I would suggest that we present something to the membership and board and see what the interest really is. My personal thinking is that the Rising Sun should sponsor a GPS loaner program for the membership to map and document state trails. I think the program could easily scale up, but I think we need to be careful about overextending the club's sponsorship of that. In other words, we might have to be prepared to process a hundred of GPS tracks a week coming in from all OHV people state-wide. If we write a proposal to buy a dozen GPS units, software and a laptop for our 60-some members, I think that alone is a plenty big project to undertake.

So say $2000 for a laptop, $500 for software and $2500 for GPS units (which Garmin and/or Trimble might be willing to donate at cost for a return with marketing visibility). So we're talking about a $10,000 grant. Just shooting spit balls here.

I can help with this. I work for Trimble and am very familiar with GPS/GIS integration. BTW-I don't work in the division that would have appropriate products for this application. Here is a good place to start:

We would not have to process .gpx files, Adam Mehlberg is handling that. They can simply go to him.

So see? Simple deal.
