Default what trails do we have gps'd?

gene king is starting a master list of the trails that are inventoried and i'm going to try to get the info from all the clubs. we don't actually need the tracklogs yet...just need to know what we have.

i need to know trail number and name, if it's not numbered or named, then how to get to the trailhead, what forest service it is in and what ranger district.

i would like to keep chat out of this, so if you have questions about a trail, please ask them elsewhere. also, if you don't have them saved in a computer/disc/drive/etc, or aren't sure you have them, please don't post.

don't hesitate to post up a trail someone has already listed, that way, if there's doesn't work out, we have a backup.

thanks
ige

I am creating a database for the club to track what we have and what we need to do. I think we need a committee to organize this...way too much for 1 person and we need to get organized before the snow melts...

I agree and wished I lived closer to help with such things. This is something I'd jump on.

from george gangler....

I am doing a computer Mapping class Saturday 6-10 at 9:00 am
This class is for the GPS Computer guy
It covers how to use Global
mapper and how it works with Garmin MapSource Bring your lap top

This class is at
Arvada Cycle
10940 w 44th Ave Wheat Ridge
303-422-3957

This class 6-10-08 is for computer users on how to identify trails and download them. This not needed for those who will drive/ride the trails or roads to just collect data.
I want to give the computer users an introduction on identifying where the gap trails/roads are and how to mark and download them so they can preload the GPS units.
To do this we will use Global Mapper and Garmin's MapSource.
You need computer skills and some experience up and down loading data from a GPS.
If you don't have a laptop to bring this will be hard to do later. Most riders/drivers will need the hands on training.
Anyone can come; but I need to cover a lot of information so I can't spend all morning teaching you how to load programs.

Please try to come with some of these programs loaded or show up early 8:30 am
A free Version of Garmin's MapSource can be downloaded.
See: http://freegeographytools.com/2007/g...ource-for-free
I will have DVD's with the free version of Global Mapper or you can buy the full version with more capabilities from me for $75.00 (normally $299.00). TIGeR Team members can download Global Mapper, Forest Service Data and Maps before the class.
See: http://groups.google.com/group/cohvc...-datadvd?hl=en
For this download you will need to be a TIGeR Team member and a member of our Google group which is password protected.

Yeah, that was me. I dropped the ball on this, so I apologize to the club. The more I read about grants and GPS boxes, the farther down the rabbit path I got sidetracked. Juggling work and the other junk, it all conspired. I did contact the TiGER Team, even. Complete scatterbrain on this end. Bottom line is that I did nothing of note on this and let you guys down.

Well then pick us back up!

Seriously though, thanks for owning up, Dave. Can you pick back up on this?

Question Reinvent the wheel?

Forgive me for I am something of an outsider (alas, no FJ ), but I like dirt and admire your Land Use forum and poke around here once in a while. I notice this is a sticky that is 3 yrs old. I also don't see any trail GPS files! I guess it's a sticky because you are hoping to collect GPS files!

So I submit, a good place to start might be at TrailDamage.com Those guys have most every trail in Colorado documented and mapped.

Maybe a good question is this: Does anybody here have a trail recorded that TD doesn't have? And is there really a need for a separate club GPS database given theirs?

It's for a totally different purpose. This thread was started during the Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) process that the Forest Service was getting started a few years ago. Any trails that were not GPS'd would not have been included in the MVUM, so we (Risng Sun) wanted to make sure that the collective "we" (off-road groups and enthusiasts, working with COHVCO I believe) had a complete listing of all the trails "we" were interested in keeping open.

As you probably know, most of the MVUM's are completed, and some in fact are coming up for revision in the next couple of years, from what I've heard.

So yeah, this thread can probably be Unstuck, just haven't gotten around to it.

This thread isn't quite dead.

What is the BEST format for GPS track logs?
Best meaning universal or easiest to translate between vendors, best resolution, best for Risingsun members...Yeah, lots of considerations, but overall, what is the "Best" for Rising Sun and other toyota 4x4 clubs?

Why? Workin' on a CM2012 trail list with GPS tracklogs we can easily share.
