Default retail Ham on the west side?

I've been to HRO out on Iliff and it's cool and all, but man that's out there. Is there a ham store on the west side? I want to touch & feel a few things then buy a new 2m rig for my commuter vehicle, but am thinking I may just have to order on line since I'm never out east.. especially during business hours.

Anything on the west side of town?

Considering the glass half full...

We are fortunate enough to have anything so close. There are only a handfull of HAM equipment dealers around the country, so to have one within an hours drive is pretty fortunate. Granted, the staff at HRO Denver is not all that helpfull or "sales" minded, it still is nice to be able to go touch the things you want to buy before you buy them.

Radio Shack used to be another option, until they came to the grimm reality that HAM operator ranks are slimming and that carrying a wide array of inventory for that every other month sale was not profitable. The company was started as Radio Shack in 1921 in Boston, Massachusetts, by two brothers, Theodore and Milton Deutschmann, who wanted to provide equipment for the cutting-edge field of amateur, or HAM, radio. Theodore and Milton Deutschmann opened a one-store retail and mail-order operation in the heart of downtown Boston. They chose the name, "Radio Shack", which was a term for the small, wooden structure that housed a ship's radio equipment. The Deutschmanns thought the name was appropriate for a store that would supply the needs of radio officers aboard ships, as well as "HAM" radio operators.

Now we are limited to a select few retail stores peppered across the country who actually carry HAM radio gear, and the barrage of online retailers who, like their physical retail cousins (HRO, etc) find that less is better.

So, in the spirit of a true optimist, I am glad that I only have to drive an hour to get to my neighborhood HAM radio retailer.

Does HRO honor the prices they have on the website? The Yaesu FT-2800M has a $50 off coupon online, making it $112! Pretty darn good price, right?

AFAIK, that is the price you pay, either online or in store. I would print out the price and ask for it in the store, just to CYA.

"is known best for its wall-sized displays of obscure-looking analog electronics components and its notoriously desperate, high-pressure sales staff." How true. I went in to buy an RC car for my nephew for Christmas and was lucky to get out of the store with my wallet intact!
