Default Tire Carrier Hinge

Got most of my tire carrier built today by the awesome guys in our fabshop! And now I'm looking at hinges/spindles. Have heard some bad things about the rockstomper hinges so I'm a little leery about that.

I know of 4x4labs hinge and Slee's hinge are about the same thing. Are there any other options. I may not be so good at piecing one together...So i may go Slee after all.

I'll have my 35" spare on aluminum rim, Highlift on there...

Default Grainger!

I think there are a couple options you can find at Grainger...Oleg would know...
You can ask him, but I think you can get them there...as well as latches too.

well, having been know to fab a few things, I was REAL skeptical of Christo's from the price. However, Let me say this. On a one-off production on a mill, it would easily cost in time and materials what he charges retail, and it is stout as hell. My carrier is pretty hefty, and I mount my tires high for departure. The hinge is so stout, that it makes the frame flex through the bumper.

IF, you are using thinwall tubing, then go the trailer axle route. If not, get that big thing from Christo.

Don't forget the option of using a cruiser spindle/bearing/hub. It's a great combo, and with locking hub you can lock it into various open positions.

Default Rockstomper

Are equally as good/bad as Slee's. Different hole sizes in the bumper/swing arm.

I ran one of Rockstomper's hinges and nearly grenaded it. The bearings were TOAST. Couldn't hold up to the weight of my portly tire carrier.

However, I added an upper hinge for a two point swing system and it works very well. No issues to date.

hmmm...I'm basically down to Slee or 4x4labs at this point...most likely Slee because he is local.

here is the progress.

2X3" out to the tire mounting surface, gussetted on the sides...that should be enough support I would think.

silly question.

Why coat before finished? Do you have your own booth/oven?
