Default FJ40 Yaesu 2800

I picked up a couple of Yaesu FT 2800 last week, one for the FJ40 and the other for the Bronco. Thanks to W0IIN and the antenna building party I had my homemade antenna ready to go.

Not having a center console, I looked at a whole bunch of possible mounting locations. In the end, it seemed most at home under the dash just to the left of the steering wheel. Here is a picture.

I'm not too crazy about where I put the microphone and think it will get moved to the left of the steering wheel. All in all, the installation was very straight forward. The power comes straight off the battery posts and the wires are tucked into a black tube for their run around the engine bay. Nice and clean.

The home brew antenna looks great on my bumper.

This was a great project and unlike most, it didn't take 2-3 times longer than I thought it would.

The radio and antenna mount look solid. Have you had an antenna check yet? I'm getting very good send/receive on my home built and suspect you will too.

Yup, using low power (5 watts) I'm full quiet into the repeaters I commonly use.
