Default Talk to me about Runnahs

There is a 1994 4Runner for sale through my credit union.

134,000 miles.

$2,500

It supposedly has a "locked engine".

They say blue-book is something like $5,500...

Any thoughts?

Buy it, chop it, tube it, drop a 3.4L in it, good to go.

easier to do a chassis swap than an engine swap

Well, let's see. It's got a 5-speed manual, and it DOES have 4WD.

Looks like it's got a 4-banger? If it had the V6, wouldn't it say-so on the the back door, as in "SR5-V6"?

I think SR5 is a designation for a trim package.

2nd generation 4 runners with the 4cyl are very rare. A 3.4L swap uses a lot of the compents from the 3 liter. A guy in my club out here had a runner with a 22re and swapped in a 3.4L. I see if I can find exactly what was needed.

So a 94 is a "Second Gen" Runner?

Hmm. THe axles in the Gnewt are from a second gen 4-runner.

Maybe I should just borrow the CV axles,. for spares!

We've got a Green 4WD 1994 Toyota 4Runner SR5 for sale. The engine is no good, and needs to be replaced. Buy the 4Runner for parts, or replace the engine and she'll be as good as new. It's in great shape, interior and exterior, and when it died on us, it had 145k miles on it.

Make me a reasonable offer and we'll both be happy.

Thanks!

Yes it would, unless it fell off.:p The V6 part, that is. Or you could pop the hood there Bob...

If a 4 cylinder, pass for sure. Takes a lot of abuse to seize a 4 cylinder. If it ran, it would be an awful dog of a truck at this altitude and a motor swap would be difficult unless replacing with the same 22RE. The 2nd gen 4Runner is heavy and underpowered as delivered IMHO.

If a V6, it's worth looking at. And no, a motor swap on a V6 is NOT harder than a chassis swap. The 3.4 bolts right in, block is the same casting; buy a harness from Mike Caskey or Oleg, you've got a very nice rig.
