I bought the yaesu 1802 (smaller than the 2800) and the larsen NMO-150-B-K (on groucho's recommendation)

I wouldn't change anything. I don't feel I need the dual band capability at this time like the 7800 or even more with the 8800. Straight 2m is fine for me in the rig.

I have all Yaesu radios. In my 80, an FT-8800 dual band mobile radio. In my FJ40 I have an FT-2800 2m only radio. I also have a VX-7R HT hand held radio. I like the dual fact that the 8800 can monitor 2 stations at the same time.

in my and both girls trucks are the Yaesu FT-7800

I have a Yaesu VX-7r Hand held

The girls have a Yaesu FT-60r hand helds.

I bought the VX-7R used for the same price as the FT-60r's whcih are pretty good radios.

I like the FT-7800 because its a dual band, military grade build and because the face plate comes off and allows you to mount the control section up front with the big bulky part mounted in the back.

Yaesu 7800 in the cruiser and a FT60R HT Very happy with both. The detachable face plate is a great option on the 7800 allows you to mount the face where you want it and the body out of the way. I have not used the dual band but it is nice to have.

What's nice about the dual bands is the ability to switch between 2 frequencies at the flick of a button. For instance, I could monitor a repeater on one side while talking on the club simplex frequency on the other. That's why I like the FT-8800. I put the FT-2800 in the FJ40 because I figured I'd need something pretty rugged, which it is. I got it off Craigslist with an antenna for only $100. It's only 2m, but we mostly (only) use 2m when we're wheeling. I figured the VX-7R hand held would be nice when you're out of the vehicle. It is. I mostly use it from home with an external antenna for our 21:00 Monday night club net.

I should probably play with the other bands some. It would be fun to try HF sometime, too.
