Default IRLP/repeater help

Hi,

I am in Brisbane Australia and bought my Kenwood TH-F6A HT. I am trying to connect to a local repeater, open a connection to WA2YZT and then QSO home. I have looked up the freq and CTCSS for the local repeater, entered it in the radio, but I just can't seem to hit the radio from my location. I am in a high rise building and orienting my HT antenna vertically in the direction of the repeater (about 8 miles away) but I just can't seem to get connected. Any suggestions from my tighty-whitey HAM friends?

Cheers,

Jeff

Jeff, I'm going to connect to the 5723 node and put a call out for you. Should be doing so in a couple of few minutes.

Jeff, I must have just missed you as you are no longer showing as logged in. It looks like there may be a problem with the node on your end. I tried connecting from both the WA2YZT and NOPQV IRLP nodes here. Typically when I connect to another node there is a greeting that will play - I did not get a greeting in either case. Checking the nodes status on IRLP.net it has been idle for 746 minutes.

It looks like there are 5 IRLP nodes in Brisbane. I'm thinking it is the lunch hour on Saturday there and you have stepped out for a bite. Maybe we can schedule up a time window where we try to hook up. The IRLP nodes in Brisbane that we can try are; 5723, 6139, 6215, 6556 and 6647.

Thanks Ricardo. I've taken a drive down to Surfer's Paradise but will try again tomorrow when the US is up. I'll pm you to set up a sked.

Thanks,
Jeff

Ricardo,

I could not get any of the links to open in Brisbane. I am either not reaching the repeater or something else is wrong. I suspect it may be a combination of the two.

I'll be going to Sydney tomorrow night and try to hook up to one of the IRLP links there (6000, 6933, 6338, or 6933). I'll PM you when and if I get things sorted. I will be in California Monday to Wednesday so I will try it from there as well.

Cheers,

Jeff
