Default FJ40 Rear Hatch Lock Arm

I am trying to get my rear hatch to lock. It looks like I am missing the lock arm. In this picture (from Coolerman's website) it is the part coming off the Lock and is labled "Lock Arm".


There are a couple of pleasant surprises in the "get my rear hatch lock working" project; my handle is not broken and the ignition key works the lock. Of course the challenge with this project is that my lock is missing the lock arm and looks like this.


I believe I am actually missing the lock arm and the barrel/hood that should slide/snap on to the end of the lock cylinder. Has anyone else dealt with this problem? How did you solve it?

Stopped by Burt on the way home today and the part number is 69384-60020, but it is no longer available.

might just have to do a new aftermarket lock...check with ccot.

nevermind...i just checked their sight and their locks don't have that arm either.

What if you fabbed one up and welded it in? My hatch is just sitting in the garage and I would be more than happy to let you use mine as a template. Cut the shape and bend with a vise and some pilers

That lever looks a lot like a mail box lock latching arm!

Some great feedback. I stopped by ACE last night to look at their locks. They have cabinet locks that look like they might work, but likely would not hold up to the elements as well as a mail box lock.

Sean, if fabbing up the piece might be the way to go. I appreciate your offer to lend me yours as a model and will pm you.

Yesterday I called a few places (cruiseroutfitters, classic cruisers, marks off road) and didn't get anyone or struck out.

Stopped by Sean's yesterday evening and picked up his lock and arm. Took it to a locksmith to see what they thought. The locksmith indicated they could fab something up for me at their hourly rate, minimum of 1/2 hour. The hourly rate is $85.

Today I called SOR and picked it up there, I also picked up a door bushing kit so that I could get over the $20 order amount to get a free catalog and minimize the $5 handling charge sting.

It is going to be great to know I can lock the FJ40 up. That said, even fully locked up these trucks are not that hard to get into.

That's cool, another good source is proffitts. You can always Point "grease crusier" on mud here with a pic and see if they have it. I would have said either him or sor would be your best bet.

Default One step forward, one half step back

The used lock arm installed just fine and it is/was great to be able to lock up the cruiser. The lock arm is a small thing, but as with each successfull project it was rewarding to get it done and take another step forward in the journey.

So Monday night I took back RougeLeader's lock cylinder and arm, got an update on his engine rebuild. Then I picked TheBoomBoom up from class and just as we put the key in lock, the cylinder for the rear hatch broke. The lock arm is fine, but the round center pole that everything rotates around/with sheared off.

Just like that, afer 37 years the it seems the cruiser gods decided they wanted it back and called it home. Thinking that it might be possible to pull it back from the other side I stopped by the locksmith yesterday to see if they could help. There is nothing that can be done.

I had originally checked with the Toyota dealership about getting the lock arm and was told they were no longer in stock, but I didn't ask about the lock cylinder at the time. Sooo I stopped in to see if they lock cylinder is still available. It is and should be here on Friday.
