Default cable tv help- hey man it's tech

ancient tv (i got it used about 19 years ago) and comcraptic cable. wired through a splitter with the internet and another tv. worked fine until a few weeks ago, then i lost all cable channels, but regular channels work fine. the regular channels wouldn't work fine if it was an issue with a cable or connector.

guy at work recommended splitter...replaced it, same issue. no issues with internet or other tv (which is only a couple years old)

could this have something to do with the digital upgrade?

Maybe cable channels went digital on you ahead of the regular which will next year. To see if thats it, take the cable box and drive it directly

don't have a cable box. i've got the cheap non digital cable, so just the gray comcast box outside with my coax going from there direct to my tv. no box inbetween.

Yes Ige your instincts are correct- that would be the digital upgrade-in essence forcing you to rent their box and their remote.

even if i don't have digital cable? i thought the commercials were saying that if you had cable there was nothing to worry about? that's where i'm confused. going to try plugging the tv in the front room and that should tell me for sure it's the tv, but it's a big bulky pile

I was referring to the Comcast digital upgrade, as a new area is upgraded the ability to use your own TV's tuner is defeated.

No relationship to the digital TV transistion for broadcasters.

There is an outside chance that if you lost power your tuning may need reset on the TV itself, but this likely would have happened once or twice before now.

yep, comcast is f'n me...

"Comcast says it will drop its popular analog expanded basic service by year's end in about 20% of its markets. Other systems will follow through 2010. Analog customers affected by the change will have a choice:

•Those who want to continue watching the channels they currently receive must connect each affected TV to a device that converts digital signals into the analog ones that the set requires.

•Those who'd rather stick with their existing set-up will only be able to get a low-price, bare-bones package consisting largely of local broadcast stations."

As much as I hate Comcast, it's not them doing this. By the end of first quarter next year, analog TVs are joining 8-track and Beta at the bottom of some deep pit.

um...yeah it is there fault. have you seen the commercials that state if you have an analog tv and cable you'll be fine? then did you read the statement above saying that it was comcast that is changing things around?

the coupons only pay a portion of the box, but looks like i'll have to get one.
